Early this morning, Wilmington Police Officers successfully apprehended Ron Jeremiah Bell, Jr., 24, of Tewksbury, following a pursuit that spanned multiple jurisdictions.

At approximately 1:35 am, a marked patrol car initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle operating erratically. The situation quickly escalated when the vehicle fled from police officers. The vehicle fled south on I-93 where officers lost sight of it. The vehicle was located a short time later on Lowell Street, where the suspect attempted to ram a Wilmington cruiser twice, demonstrating a blatant disregard for public safety.

Wilmington cruisers pursued the vehicle north on I-93. The vehicle exited the highway at exit 35 where it eventually crashed on Andover Street. The male driver abandoned the scene, fleeing into a wooded area, leaving behind a female passenger who was transported to Lahey Hospital with serious non-life threatening injuries.

A comprehensive search operation was immediately launched, with support from the Massachusetts State Police, Andover Police, and North Reading Police. The male suspect was eventually located at approximately 7:00 am in the vicinity of 200 Andover Street. Upon discovery, he attempted to flee from officers and was apprehended following a struggle. During the arrest, it was revealed that Ron Jeremiah Bell, Jr. was in possession of a firearm.

Bell will face multiple charges, including Assault With a Dangerous Weapon, Carrying a Firearm Without a License, Resisting Arrest, and Possession of a Class B Substance. He is scheduled to be arraigned later today at Woburn District Court.

Chief Joseph Desmond praised the involved officers for their exemplary performance and restraint in handling an extremely dangerous and volatile situation. “Our officers exhibited commendable professionalism and dedication to public safety throughout this incident. Their quick thinking and coordinated efforts ensured the apprehension of the suspect with minimal harm to the public and themselves,” said Deputy Chief Pupa.

The Wilmington Police Department extends its gratitude to the assisting agencies for their collaboration in bringing this incident to a safe resolution.
