On Saturday, March 16, 2024, Wilmington Police Officers conducted a routine traffic stop that led to the arrest of an individual for illegal possession of a firearm.

At 12:19 pm, Wilmington Police conducted a traffic stop of a BMW with an expired Florida registration. Upon further inspection, officers discovered a loaded 9mm handgun within the vehicle. The serial number of the handgun had been deliberately scraped off, rendering it unreadable. The driver of the vehicle, identified as 27-year-old Jackinson Joacine of Quincy, was found to be in possession of the firearm without a valid license to carry.

Joacine was promptly arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including Possession of a Firearm with a Defaced Number, Carrying a Loaded Firearm Without a License, Possession of Ammunition Without a FID Card, Improper Storage of a Firearm, as well as several motor vehicle offenses.

Chief Joseph Desmond commended the officers involved in the apprehension, stating, “The dedication of our officers to the safety of the people of Wilmington is exemplary. By swiftly acting on this traffic stop and uncovering an illegally possessed firearm, they have ensured that a dangerous weapon is now out of circulation, contributing to the safety and security of our community.”

Joacine was arraigned at Woburn District Court on Monday, March 18.

The Wilmington Police Department remains committed to upholding public safety and will continue to enforce laws aimed at preventing illegal firearms from endangering our residents.
