Chief Joseph Desmond announced today that the Wilmington Police Department has selected a new patch design for officers to wear in 2022 as part of the agency’s 150 anniversary celebration. In late August, the Department announced that we would be accepting patch designs to commemorate this important anniversary.  The Department received 42 designs from citizens across Massachusetts. All 42 designs were presented to the entire department and were then put to a vote. The top 5 designs were submitted to Chief Desmond to make the final selection.

Chief Desmond ultimately chose a patch designed by Wilmington resident, Ashley Perssico. “It was a difficult decision”, stated Chief Desmond, “we had so many talented individuals send us designs. Having the Department narrow down the list of choices was helpful, but it was still hard to pick just one.”

The Wilmington Police Department wishes to extend our gratitude to all those who submitted patch designs.
