WILMINGTON – Chief Joseph Desmond announced that members of the Wilmington Police Department will be donning uniforms with a special autism awareness patch during the month of April. In addition to wearing these patches to increase awareness of autism spectrum disorder, patches will be sold to benefit the The Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism, whose mission is to help people and families affected by autism live life to the fullest.
“We are honored to partner with and support the Flutie Foundation for the third year in a row”, stated Chief Desmond. “In addition to funding organizations that support people with autism, the foundation has helped thousands of families through financial grants, camp scholarships, and by providing tracking devices for kids who wander.”
Patches will be available at the front desk of the Wilmington Police Department to members of the public who make a $10 donation to the Flutie Foundation. This year they will also be available at AJ’s Kitchen located at 162 Lowell Street.
