John Delorey sworn in as WPD Lieutenant

We are thrilled to announce that John Delorey was sworn in today as Lieutenant at the Wilmington Police Department in a ceremony held at the Wilmington Public Safety Building! Lt. Delorey, a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, has been an invaluable member of our team since 2004.

Starting as a patrol officer, Lt. Delorey was an active member of the NEMLEC Regional Response Team (RRT) and played a key role in reorganizing the WPD Honor Guard alongside retired Officer Paul Chalifour. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2019, where he excelled as a patrol sergeant before becoming the Training Sergeant. In that role, he served as the department’s armorer, lead firearms instructor, and was instrumental in coordinating both internal and external training.

In his new role as Lieutenant, he will serve as the Training Director, overseeing all aspects of department training, and will continue to lead as the Honor Guard commander. Chief Joseph Desmond, Deputy Chief Brian Pupa, and the entire Wilmington Police Department wish Lieutenant Delorey all the best as he takes on this important new role.
