The Operations Division is the backbone of the Wilmington Police Department, ensuring the safety and security of our community through both proactive and responsive policing efforts. This division includes two critical components: the Patrol Division and the Traffic Division, each with distinct responsibilities that contribute to the department’s mission.

Patrol Division

The Patrol Division serves as the frontline of law enforcement in Wilmington. Officers in this division are tasked with responding to calls for service, conducting proactive patrols throughout the community, and enforcing traffic laws. Whether addressing emergencies, engaging with residents, or maintaining a visible presence to deter crime, the Patrol Division is committed to protecting the public and fostering a safe environment for all.

Traffic Division

The Traffic Division plays a specialized role in maintaining roadway safety and addressing traffic-related concerns. This unit focuses on:

  • Identifying and resolving traffic issues.
  • Responding to complaints about unsafe driving or roadway conditions.
  • Targeting specific violations, such as speeding, improper use of cell phones by drivers, and unsafe actions at intersections.

In collaboration with the Wilmington School Department, the Traffic Division prioritizes school bus safety, working to ensure the safety of students and families traveling to and from school.

By combining the efforts of the Patrol and Traffic Divisions, the Operations Division upholds the department’s commitment to service, safety, and community engagement.
