Honor Guard

Honor Guard Member saluting.

The Wilmington Police Department Honor Guard, established in 1987, serves as a ceremonial unit dedicated to representing the Department with dignity and respect at town events, formal ceremonies, and police officer funerals. Under the direction of Lieutenant John Delorey, the Honor Guard embodies the Department’s commitment to service and honor.

Each year, the Honor Guard leads the Town of Wilmington’s Memorial Day Parade, bringing a solemn presence to the commemoration of those who have served and sacrificed. They also play an integral role in Wilmington’s veterans’ memorial dedications and Veterans Day observances, honoring the bravery and commitment of service members past and present. Adding to the Honor Guard’s tradition and impact is the Department bagpiper, Sergeant Matthew Stavro.

The Wilmington Police Department Honor Guard stands as a visible reminder of the Department’s dedication to its community and values of loyalty, service, and remembrance. Through their presence and actions, the Honor Guard fosters respect and gratitude within Wilmington, honoring both those who protect the community today and those who have given their all.
