Chief Joseph Desmond is pleased to announce that the Wilmington Police Department is participating in the 6th Annual Home Base No Shave campaign to raise awareness and funds for the critical, life-saving care that Home Base provides to Veterans and their Families to heal from the invisible wounds, such as post-traumatic stress and traumatic brain injury.

During the campaign , Officers who pledge $100 have been authorized to forgo the normal shaving requirements to evoke conversation, raise awareness and break the stigma associated with post-traumatic stress (PTS) and other invisible wounds of war. Wilmington Police Officers are joining police officers, firefighters, corrections officers, EMTs, dispatchers and paramedics from all over New England in support of this important cause. As of November 4, members of the Wilmington Police Department have raised $1,900.

Last year, this awareness and fundraising campaign raised over $321,000 to fund critical mental health and brain injury care – all at no cost for our nation’s wounded & injured Service Members and their Families.
