WILMINGTON – Chief Joseph Desmond reports that the Wilmington Police Department is charging an individual in connection with a robbery that occurred at the Reading Cooperative Bank located on Lowell Street in Wilmington on the afternoon of September 18, 2020

Caio Costa, age 25 of Methuen, MA is being charged with violation of Massachusetts General Law 265/17/F Armed Robbery (firearm) while masked and two counts of violation of Massachusetts General Law 265/18/M Assault to Rob while armed with a firearm.

Based on an investigation by the Wilmington Police Criminal Bureau in conjunction with 98787the FBI Bank Robbery Task Force, the Massachusetts State Police, and the Tewksbury, Lowell and Chelmsford Police Departments, Caio Costa was identified as the suspect in the Wilmington Robbery.

On the afternoon of September 18, 2020 at approximately 2:50pm, Wilmington Police received a 911 call from the staff at the Reading Cooperative Bank at 230 Lowell Street stating that they had been robbed.  The suspect was wearing a motorcycle helmet and dark clothing and brandished a firearm at the bank teller demanding money and then left on a dark motorcycle.  Nobody was injured during the robbery.

Caio Costa will be arraigned at a later time at the Woburn District Court.  Mr. Costa is also the suspect in a number of other robberies throughout the region.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
