WILMINGTON – Chief Joseph Desmond reports that On September 19, 2020, the Wilmington Police Department arrested two individuals on numerous charges related to thefts from motor vehicles, which occurred in Wilmington on September 18th and 19th, 2020

Jennifer Chavez-Hernandez age 24 Of Chelsea, MA and Christopher Perez-Valladares, age 24 of Chelsea, MA were arrested on the morning of September 19th and both were charged with 5 counts of violation of MGL 266/60/B Receiving Stolen Property less than $1200 and numerous narcotics violation including MGL 94C/34/A Possession of Class A Drug – Fentanyl.  Both parties were scheduled to be arraigned at Woburn District Court on Monday September 21, 2020.

In the early morning hours of September 19, 2020, an individual in the area of Broad Street called to report a male party walking up to the caller’s motor vehicle and then walking away.  At approximately 4:35am, officers responded to the area to investigate the call and as a result a car in the area was stopped.  Based on that stop the investigating officers were able to locate, inside of the vehicle, a number of items which had been previously stolen from motor vehicles throughout the neighborhood.

Through the investigation, Officers were able to identify a number victims in the neighborhood adjacent to Broad Street who had items stolen from their car.  Officers were also able to locate items in the vehicle, which were stolen during a car break in spree that occurred on September 18th in the area of Columbia Street in Wilmington, as well as other items stolen from car breaks in other communities.

The Wilmington Police Department would like to thank the community for their assistance with this investigation and especially the reporting party who took the time to contact us, when they observed the suspicious activity.

The department will be promoting the #9PM Routine over the next few weeks on our social media accounts, to encourage residents to secure their motor vehicles.  Please remember to bring your valuables inside, lock your car, lock your doors and windows to your house and turn on exterior lights.  Most importantly please contact the police department when you observe suspicious behavior.
