Wilmington Police To Participate in Home Base No Shave

November 1, 2019 by WPD Social Media

Chief Joseph Desmond announced today that the Wilmington Police Department is participating in “Home Base No Shave” during the month of November. While beards are not typically allowed for Wilmington Police Officers, Chief Desmond has authorized Officers to grow facial hair in support of Home Base,  a Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital Program. The mission of Home Base  is to to heal the invisible wounds for Veterans, Service Members, and their Family Members. Participating Officers are donating or fundraising $100 each to Home Base.

“We couldn’t be prouder to support this organization,” said Chief Desmond “The Town of Wilmington does a great job supporting the veterans of this community and this is just another way we can help. Home Base works not only with veterans, but with their loved ones, who are dealing with the invisible wounds of war. We think their mission is so important that we invited them to participate in National Night Out this past summer. We wanted to give them the opportunity to reach out to Wilmington veterans.”

The mental health and wellness of those who have served in the military is of critical importance to the Veteran, their family, and the community in which they live. If you are experiencing difficulty, there is a range of mental health and support services available to you at Home Base, a Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital Program.
