Chief Michael Begonis is proud to welcome three new officers to the Wilmington Police Department. Officer Shane Foley, Officer Emily Stebbins, and Officer Michael Wilson graduated from the Lowell Police Academy at a ceremony on Friday morning. The Lowell Police Academy is a rigorous 21 week program that challenges new police officers mentally, physically, & academically. In the academy recruits are trained and tested on such subjects as criminal & constitutional law, physical fitness, police procedures, emergency driving, defensive tactics, and firearms just to name a few. During the ceremony, Officer Wilson was awarded the Captain Steven Smith Academic Achievement Award for having the highest academic average in his platoon.

Graduation from the Police Academy is just the beginning of training for these three new Officers. For the next 10 weeks they will each be assigned to an experienced Field Training Officer where they will take what they learned in the academy and apply it to real world situations.

The men and women of the Wilmington Police Department congratulate Officer Foley, Officer Stebbins, and Officer Wilson on their graduation and proudly welcome them to our Department.
