WILMINGTON – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Wilmington Police Chief Michael Begonis have announced that a 13-year-old juvenile male has been charged in connection with making threats to a student at Wilmington Middle School and possession of explosive devices.
The male, a student at the Middle School, has been charged with three counts of possession of an explosive device, possession of a counterfeit note and threatening to commit a crime.
On May 3, a student at Wilmington Middle School reported receiving threatening messages over social media from the male student. School officials reported the incident to Wilmington Police who immediately began an investigation into the incident. An apparent homemade explosive device as well as gun powder and other material allegedly used to make the device were located in the home of the juvenile. Wilmington police subsequently secured the residence. Out of an abundance of caution police conducted a search at Wilmington Middle School, no devices were located.
He will be arraigned in Lowell Juvenile Court. With the exception of youthful offender cases, juvenile court proceedings are closed to the public.
