The Wilmington Police Department is advising it residents to be vigilant for a suspicious male that may have made attempts to lure young females into his vehicle this past week.  There have been three reported incidents (one in Wilmington and two in Reading) that bear similarities and are a cause for concern.

  1. On July 12, 2016 at approximately 9pm, three 13 year old females were scared off on Van Nordan Road in Reading by escaping into the woods after they were followed by a small white car.  The car was described as low to the ground, playing loud music.  The vehicle was traveling behind them with its lights off before stopping abruptly and frightening the girls into the woods.  The male party was behind them yelling “Wait, stop running”.  They thought there were multiple people in the vehicle.
  2. On July 12, 2016 at approximately 9:30pm, three 13 year old females were walking on King Street in Wilmington when approached by a male driving a smaller white car with loud music playing.  One witness described some sort of white stripe around the tires.   The male stopped and told the girls “there has been a coyote seen in the area, it’s not safe to be walking, get in my car and I will bring you home safely”.  The females refused and he repeated his request.  The females took off running, the male exited his vehicle but returned to vehicle and left scene as one of the females screamed “kidnapper” as she ran. They described the male as white with brownish hair, with a curl or flip of hair in front with very short hair on the sides.  The male had a light brown short beard.  The male spoke with a raspy voice.
  3. On July 13, 2016, a 12 year old Reading girl was approached on Forest Street at approximately 1:15-30pm.  The male asked to give the 12 year old “a ride” and left when refused.  The male was said to have been driving a smaller white vehicle that was described as noisy or squeaky.  The female described the male 35 years old (possible Hispanic) with a beard.

The police departments request the assistance of its citizens to report any suspicious activity to the police department as soon as possible.
