The Family & Friends CPR Course teaches the lifesaving skills of adult Hands-Only CPR, child CPR with breaths, adult and child AED use, infant CPR and relief of choking in an adult, child or infant. Skills are taught in a dynamic group environment by using the American Heart Association’s research-proven practice-while-watching technique, which provides students with the most hands-on CPR practice time possible. The course is taught by certified instructors from the Wilmington Police Department.

Family & Friends CPR is for people who want to learn CPR but do not need a course completion card in CPR for their job. This course is ideal for schools and students, new parents, grandparents, babysitters and others interested in learning how to save a life.

These class is open to anyone age 12 or older who lives and works in Wilmington. Thanks to a generous grant from the Cummings Foundation, the class is free of charge. We encourage spouses, parents, babysitters and anyone interested in learning a new skill and meeting new friends to apply when classes are announced.

There is some minor physical activity required for the course, such as kneeling on the floor and practicing skills learned in the class on manikins.

Due to the extreme popularity that this course has enjoyed, we will only open the application periods for short periods of time prior to each course, so we encourage perspective applicants to check back often for the latest announcements.

All course are also sanctioned by the American Heart Association.

Due to an overwhelming response, registration for the May 2022 class is closed. Future classes will be announced here and on our social media pages.
