The Wilmington Police Department is a Civil Service Department. New officers are hired from a pool of eligible candidates who successfully pass the Civil Service exam. The exam is administered by the Massachusetts Human Resources Division (HRD). For test information, please visit their website.

When the Department is hiring new officers, eligible candidates will be notified by the HRD. Prior to being hired, candidates will go through an interview process as well as psychological and physical agility testing.
