This morning, members of the Wilmington High School 9/11 Committee made a donation of new dress gloves and rain covers to the Wilmington Police Department Honor Guard. The group made the presentation at Wilmington High School to Chief Michael Begonis, Officer Paul Chalifour, & Officer Butch Alpers.
On September 11, 2017, students from the Committee held a “Dining For a Cause” event at the 99 Restaurant in Wilmington. Their goal was to raise money to purchase equipment for the Wilmington Police Department Honor Guard. According to student, Jessica Moore, the event raised $250. During that school day, the committee held storytelling events to encourage discussion of the events on that tragic day and to inspire students to go out and do good deeds.
Officer Chalifour thanked the group the group stating, “We appreciate all you do. Everything will come in handy.” He went on to say that the items will be put to immediate use as the Honor Guard will be participating in the Lowell Police Academy graduation for our three new officers tomorrow and will be participating in the Town’s Veterans’ Day Ceremony next week. The Wilmington Police Honor Guard was reorganized in 2015. Officer Paul Chalifour, the unofficial Department Historian and senior member of the Patrol Division, was responsible for the reorganization and redesign of the uniforms.
