On August 23, 2017 the Wilmington Police Department reported that Police and Fire units responded to a report of a car into a building at 277 Main Street. During the course of the investigation, it was determined that a 2004 Chevy Silverado was traveling north on Main Street when it left the road, crossed an empty parking lot, and then crashed through the front doors of the building.  The building is currently vacant. The operator, a 34 year old Wilmington man, was the only occupant in the vehicle and was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Our initial statement reported that the driver would be facing several charges including Operating Under the Influence of Liquor. This was based on evidence obtained at the scene of the crash. After receiving new evidence, it has been determined that the crash was a result of a medical issue. No charges will be filed against the operator.
